A Boards – tried and Tested

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

The modes and methodologies of sales and advertising are undergoing critical change. However, this does not necessarily come at the expense of traditional methods of promotion, and quite frankly there will always be a place for devices such as A boards.

A boards and pavement signs are still the most effective solution for outdoor point of sale, as essentially fragile modern forms of advertising and promotion have still yet to solve the particular challenges of outdoor display.

The most obvious of these challenges is durability, and in the UK we are especially familiar with the changeability of the weather. It is therefore not a good idea to leave a non-durable sign/digital display outdoors, as even if it appears to be sunny, Great British rain is always possible. With this in mind, durable A boards are perfect for the outdoors, as not only can they be quickly moved inside, but they also afford a level of durability. And this is vital when it comes to advertising to potential customers.

Of course, there’s more to effective pavement signs than inherent durability. And their relative simplicity also serves as a distinct advantage in an outdoor setting. As pavement displays have the unique challenge of advertising to complete strangers (rather than customers who are already in your store) they must be able to communicate highly effectively. In this sense A -boards, despite their simplicity, are hugely effective, and can carry simple messages/slogans that go right to the customer.

Why All Businesses Should Consider Point Of Sale Stands

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

No matter what kind of business you’re in, the basis of it is bound to be attracting customers and increasing sales. That’s why you always need to consider point of sale stands, because they can be just the thing to get you the customers that you want.

Point of sale stands can not only be used to sell your products, but they can also be used to advertise. A boards, for example, can be a fantastic way to get customers into your store by advertising what you’ve got to offer, whether it’s food, jobs, holidays or just about anything else. Leaflet and brochure displays can be particularly useful as well, letting you get your sales literature, information or offers to the widest possible market.

Newspaper and magazine display racks are often the most common way to sell things in newsagents, but don’t forget counter trays if you’ve got a specific publication that needs flaunting. These can be useful in offices as well, as if you leave counter stands at reception with the latest brochure or sales copy people will be encouraged to read about your business while they wait.

As you can see, it really doesn’t matter what kind of business you’re in, because just about everyone will be able to benefit from point of sale in some form. If you think it could be just what you need to see your business thrive, then make sure to get in touch with us here at Tradewind for everything you could possibly need.

Tips for Choosing Display Fixtures

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

When commissioning your display fixtures, whether for point of sale or throughout the store, there are some areas of consideration you need to cover to ensure you make the best choice:

The first step is to effectively plan your space. This will ensure that you get the best lifetime value for your displays. Thorough space planning will make the difference between point of sale that lasts for many years and one which, after a season, has proved to be too bulky and too inaccessible.

This upfront preparation can take time as you need to consider all your inventory, but it is worth the time commitment. Take into account the weight of your product, also bearing in mind that you will probably showcase several products on one display. Again to be able to display the maximum amount of product, this is essential planning.

When choosing point of sale displays you need to double check the amount of space available and be aware of other store displays that may impact the new display. For example you want to avoid putting a confectionary stand near anything that produces heat as this will damage your stock.

When placing point of sale display stands you need to also be aware of safety elements. Is there enough room for customers to manoeuvre around the displays comfortably? Will a display cause a bottle neck at any point in the store?  Does the display block your view of other parts of the shop?

At Tradewind Displays we have a team of experts who will be happy to guide you on choosing your point of sale display fixtures.

Are your Point of Sale Displays up to Scratch?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

On average, around 60 per cent of purchase decisions are made at point of sale. In today’s competitive markets customers have a huge amount of choice, and in order to convert  sales, retailers have to get creative with point of sale displays.

There are several benefits to retailers who invest in point of sale:

  • Point of sale displays influence buying decisions dramatically. Customers are likely to be drawn to a well displayed and promoted brand and will be more willing to pay a premium for it.
  • Point of sale can increase the sale potential of products and also encourage impulse purchasing. You can also increase the bottom line profits.
  • Point of sale educates customers. By informing your customers about the benefits of a product they will recognise a need for the item.
  • Point of sale branding should be uniform. You can use custom made point of sale displays to create a consistent brand message.

The three main types of point of sale displays are:

  • Floor stands – these are freestanding displays and can be purchased in many forms depending on the product. There are heavy duty stands designed to hold heavy weight products to lightweight spinning magazine stands.
  • Counter displays – these are found at the cash till and can be a great way of encouraging impulse purchasing. They are excellent for displaying products within a small space.
  • Point of sale signage – this is an equally important part of in-store advertising. Logos, graphics and product signage are all essential when making a product stand out.

At Tradewind Displays we are specialists in point of sale displays.

Make your Sweet Displays Attention Grabbing

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Setting up eye catching point of sale for confectionary and sweets needs to look fun to attract potential customers, but also needs to be profitable for the store.  There’s more to it than simply ordering stock and getting it out on the shop floor.

When looking at where to place point of sale displays, you need to think about two factors:

Where can you accommodate point of sale displays? A confectionary display is usually guaranteed to make a profit but if you have crammed the point of sale into a small space, it can look uninviting and may be difficult for customers to access.

Secondly, from which place will your customers see it best? If you want to attract children to the sweet display then it should be situated next to other items that appeal to them, such as toys. If you have a small point of sale display and want to attract impulse buyers, then on the counter near the cash till is best.

Choosing the best quality containers for holding sweets may sound obvious, but there are many stores that end up with poor point of sale through lack of thought.  You’ll only waste time and money this way. Think about how much space you have to play with. Could you get a large point of sale display or would only small fixtures fit? Are there any special requirements such as shelving for chocolate bars and hooks for bags of confectionary?

At Tradewind Displays we can help with all of your point of sale requirements.

Don’t forget the front of store for Point of Sale

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Every shop manager will know that point of sale materials are critical to encouraging impulse purchases made within the retail sector.  While customer stands to pay for their shopping or are standing in a reception area it is a key time for them to view advertising material, complete competition forms, make an impulse purchase or find out about new products.

For this reason point of sale signage is extremely important and can significantly contribute towards increasing sales.  It is also much easier to up sell a customer at the point of purchase using attractive sales materials than without.

Point of sale also relates to the retail signs used on the front of a store to attract customers inside.  This can include any number of banner flags, A boards, frame signs, sale signs and lighting – in fact any signage that is attractive and eye catching will all positively help.  If you own a corner store, a small boutique or food outlet this is an important part of the promotional kit required to promote your business to passing trade.  Your goal is to give passersby a reason to come into your shop.

Many of the most popular designs for outdoor signage are the A boards.  There are different reasons for choosing each one.  A boards can be updated on a regular basis to show the day’s special or seasonal bargain.  You can choose from blackboard types, those with magnetic backings or those with wire mesh to hold posters.

At Tradewind Displays we have a range of point of sale and A boards to choose from.

Designing your Store to succeed

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

If you take the time to design the layout of your store it can ensure that you get the maximum return on sales and can be the secret to your success.  This may mean arranging the store so that customers are guided through past point of sale and displays to the cash till.  You may choose to display promotional displays and discounts near the door so that passersby are tempted in and by organising your products in a logical way you can ensure people can find what they are looking for quickly rather than losing interest and leaving.

Another element of the shop design is the choice of point of sale.  Here you will be selecting promotional material that will be displayed near to the cash till to encourage impulse purchases.  At this point people already have their money to hand over and may see something they want at the last minute.

This approach can work well as people can quickly become bored whilst queuing up to pay.  By using point of sale displays to present products attractively to customers you can increase your revenue significantly.  It is also an ideal place to use acrylic displays of information and discount offers as customers will have time to read it.  Make sure the items that you place at the point of sale are smaller items or relatively cheap as people tend to opt for things that they can spend their small change on.

At Tradewind Displays we can help you to choose the best point of sale for your store.

Choosing the best A-Boards for you

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

A-boards are well used within the retail sector and the world of advertising.  These distinctive displays have earned their name due to the A shape that the frame of the board makes.  The four legs of an A board frame join together to a point which looks like a triangular A shape.  For extra support some A boards have a bar that joins the legs.

Their popularity comes from their simplicity and versatility.  Due to the design they can be transported easily and folded away flat to be stored.  You can buy A-boards in a variety of materials most of which are lightweight and easy to carry.  Materials available are wood, metals, plastics – all have differing costs and levels of durability so you need to think carefully about how you will use your A boards before you choose one.

Wooden A-boards are not great for outdoor use due to the rainy climate however they are a popular choice with garden centres and cafés where wood complements the décor and theme of the outlet.  If you want to use a wooden A board outside they are simple to fold down and whisk inside when needed.

Metal A-boards are premium point of sale models and are well suited to the outdoors due to their durability.  You can use them to display a poster which can be covered by a Perspex sheet to protect it.  You can display all manner of information effectively and attractively with A-boards.

Here at Tradewind Displays we have a great selection of A-boards to choose from.

Boutique Point of Sale

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A boutique shop window is the showcase for the rest of the store and must be planned and executed expertly to ensure that the correct brand message is conveyed and that it appeals to those all important customers.  However, before you start ordering more mannequins, there is more to creating shop front displays than clothes dummies.

Point of sale materials such as window clings and display signs play a huge role in creating brand image and conveying promotional messages.  This is a way of attracting people who are looking for specific brands and styles that may be hard to find in traditional retail outlets.  You can also use signage as a point of sale technique to advertise your biggest competitive advantage over the big retail stores – your personal service.  This may be personal styling, free alterations or custom fitting.  No matter what the service, your front window is the ideal place to advertise it.  You can then focus on the mannequin display to communicate the attitude, style and atmosphere of the boutique.

Once in store you need to continue with point of sale placement.  Use signage and display stands in store to show off your wares and to guide customers throughout the boutique.  Clever displays can encourage impulse purchases and encourage customers that they simply can’t leave without buying the complete outfit with all its accessories.

If within the first few seconds of entering the boutique a customer cannot envisage wearing and owning your products they are unlikely to come back so it is imperative you get your point of sale displays right.

At Tradewind Displays we can help with all your point of sale needs.

Communicate your image in the Shop Window

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

If you own a boutique on a busy high street then you can really get creative with your point of sale and displays to encourage the passing trade to visit your shop.  What can seem extreme or out of place at a traditional retail outlet can be seen as interesting and quirky in a boutique.  You want to create displays that make your boutique stand out.  Certain point of sale materials can help to reinforce your brand and image as well as selling your clothing and products and leaving a positive impression on customers who will be more likely to return.

The shop window itself is extremely important and can play a huge role in attracting customers.  Before you rush out and buy lots of point of sale and expensive items think about what you are trying to achieve.  What type of image do you want to create?  If you are trying to carve out a niche as a boutique with an individual style then you need to reflect this in your displays.  Creating a standard display will not convey this message to customers.

Shoppers choose boutiques for several reasons.  Many are enchanted by the charm of them, the unusual décor, the one-to-one advice and the individual and unique clothes and accessories that are on offer.  You need to understand what your customers are looking for and then communicate this in the shop window display.

At Tradewind Displays we have point of sale materials relevant to many industries to help promote your business, such as newpaper display stands and magazine display racks.
