What Makes a Great Outdoor Stand?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Outdoor displays have the particular capacity for being able to reach a wide range of potential customers. However, this does come at a price, and outdoor displays need to live up to the specific demands of outdoor usage, including durability and visibility.

As outdoor displays will need to survive in the great outdoors, it is important that they are given some level of weather-proofing. Even if you only plan on using outdoor displays in the summer months, the British weather is changeable, and therefore there should be at least some level of resistance to water etc.

With this mind, outdoor displays need to take advantage of suitable materials. In this regard, acrylic stands are ideal as they are not only durable, but acrylic stands are also lightweight, which means that they can be moved indoors at a moment’s notice.

Of course, whilst acrylic stands are a great way to display newspapers etc, they are not the only outdoor solution. A vending kiosk is also ideally suited to an outdoor sales environment, as certain kinds of kiosks, such as the deluxe kiosk from Tradewind displays, will not only give you a durable outdoor display for your newspapers etc, but it will also keep the vendor protected.

So, whilst acrylic stands are a simple outdoor display solution, they are not the only option. At Tradewind, we’ve got all kinds of great outdoor displays, so come and have a look and see what we can do for your outdoor display needs.

What can we Expect to Find in the Newspapers on Newspaper Stands?

Monday, April 5th, 2010

The newspapers that we see on newspaper stands today have come a long way from the first ever newspaper that was printed over 500 years ago.

The newspaper market can be broadly split into several sections, with the main two styles of papers that you see filling up newspaper stands being the broadsheets and the tabloids.

While the terms used to refer to the sizes of the papers on the newspaper display stands – broadsheets were wider and longer, while tabloids were thinner and less dense – the terms now serve to distinguish the type of material that can be found within the newspaper.

Broadsheets are regarded as being more intellectual, focusing on ‘serious’ stories and analysis of politics, while the tabloids sell an altogether racier and sensationalist stream of stories.

Both newspapers on the newspaper display stands inspire love and hatred in the general public. Historically, the tabloids were marketed at the working class, who enjoyed the half-dressed girls, the gossip and tales of sleaze while they regarded the broadsheets as dull and boring. At the same time, those who read and identified with the broadsheets regarded the tabloids which filled up the newspaper display stands as being sexist and smutty, with no more intellectual value than a comic.

In many ways, the newspaper that you choose from the newspaper display stands tells the world as much about you as the political party you vote for. For newsagents and supermarkets to market these products effectively and make them readily and easily accessible to the public, having appropriate display stands for newspapers is essential. You are what you read, after all.

Tips for Choosing Display Fixtures

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

When commissioning your display fixtures, whether for point of sale or throughout the store, there are some areas of consideration you need to cover to ensure you make the best choice:

The first step is to effectively plan your space. This will ensure that you get the best lifetime value for your displays. Thorough space planning will make the difference between point of sale that lasts for many years and one which, after a season, has proved to be too bulky and too inaccessible.

This upfront preparation can take time as you need to consider all your inventory, but it is worth the time commitment. Take into account the weight of your product, also bearing in mind that you will probably showcase several products on one display. Again to be able to display the maximum amount of product, this is essential planning.

When choosing point of sale displays you need to double check the amount of space available and be aware of other store displays that may impact the new display. For example you want to avoid putting a confectionary stand near anything that produces heat as this will damage your stock.

When placing point of sale display stands you need to also be aware of safety elements. Is there enough room for customers to manoeuvre around the displays comfortably? Will a display cause a bottle neck at any point in the store?  Does the display block your view of other parts of the shop?

At Tradewind Displays we have a team of experts who will be happy to guide you on choosing your point of sale display fixtures.

Are your Point of Sale Displays up to Scratch?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

On average, around 60 per cent of purchase decisions are made at point of sale. In today’s competitive markets customers have a huge amount of choice, and in order to convert  sales, retailers have to get creative with point of sale displays.

There are several benefits to retailers who invest in point of sale:

  • Point of sale displays influence buying decisions dramatically. Customers are likely to be drawn to a well displayed and promoted brand and will be more willing to pay a premium for it.
  • Point of sale can increase the sale potential of products and also encourage impulse purchasing. You can also increase the bottom line profits.
  • Point of sale educates customers. By informing your customers about the benefits of a product they will recognise a need for the item.
  • Point of sale branding should be uniform. You can use custom made point of sale displays to create a consistent brand message.

The three main types of point of sale displays are:

  • Floor stands – these are freestanding displays and can be purchased in many forms depending on the product. There are heavy duty stands designed to hold heavy weight products to lightweight spinning magazine stands.
  • Counter displays – these are found at the cash till and can be a great way of encouraging impulse purchasing. They are excellent for displaying products within a small space.
  • Point of sale signage – this is an equally important part of in-store advertising. Logos, graphics and product signage are all essential when making a product stand out.

At Tradewind Displays we are specialists in point of sale displays.

Gift Shop Point of Sale

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

A gift shop will make the most impact with displays at point of sale. This is the selling area in the direct vicinity of the cash till.  As impulse purchases play such a vital role in the survival of gift shops, it is essential to ensure point of sale displays are effective.

What types of merchandise should you use in point of sale displays? In addition to this how should they be displayed in the first place?

Here are some ideas:

Novelty Toys

A selection of novelty toys are always guaranteed to appeal to the customer in a gift shop. They look great in point of sale displays and, as they are small in size, are quick and easy for customers to grab on their way to the check out. They appeal to all ages of children and adults. You can opt for children’s toys as playthings or also display a range of toys designed as stress relievers for adults.

You can create point of sale displays in either freestanding racks or, if the cash till is against a wall, there can be huge benefit in creating a wall display leaving the countertop open for other displays.

Gift Cards

Traditionally cards are displayed on large wall displays or freestanding shelf units. However, if you are specialising in certain types of gift card or you want to draw attention to certain brands of card, you can create a point of sale display.

At Tradewind Displays we can assist you in selecting the best point of sale for your business.

Ways to Jazz Up your Plastic Displays

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

When you ponder plastic point of sale, you will no doubt have an image of acrylic bins and clear acrylic display stands that are more geared towards functionality than design.  They are a main staple of any store’s point of sale display and you will find many ways of using them creatively in the shop. However, there are also more vibrant versions that can really add some spice to your point of sale.

Here are some ways to add colour and appeal to your point of sale displays:

1.    Use acrylic stands and bins in a variety of colours, styles and shapes

When looking at the styles, shapes and colours available there is a wealth of variety, as well as versatility and durability.  Colours can even be made translucent so that your customers are still able to appreciate the products inside them.  There are fixtures that can be tailored to specific requirements and holiday themes.  Acrylic mix and match containers in a variety of sizes can add interest to point of sale displays or create an individualised look with unique shapes and styles.

2.    Use brightly coloured products in acrylic stands

Another way to create eye catching displays is to use bright merchandise inside clear acrylic stands.  Brightly coloured confectionary or small toys can make attractive displays at point of sale.  You can choose themes to fit with the holiday season – for example, orange and black merchandise at Halloween or red confectionary for Valentine’s Day.

At Tradewind Displays we have a wide range of acrylic stands on offer.

Keeping a Rustic Appeal

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

In many close knit communities there is a trend developing where people are rekindling their love affair with the local corner shop. The charm and personal touch of these shops hark back to a time when the local community was serviced by local stores specialising in certain areas, whether they were the bakery, grocery store, butchers or newsagents. If you are emulating this rustic elegance and appeal then think carefully about the type of point of sale that you choose. To continue the theme of old world enchantment, you need to find displays that fit with this look and feel.

Before you rush in, think about your merchandise. What type of products do you sell? Do the displays need to provide functionality? If you are a bakery, will you be looking for point of sale displays to hold freshly baked bread rolls and loaves, for example? You will also want to ensure that customers find them convenient to view and choose the products they want.

Think about the weight of the products. Will acrylic stands be sturdy enough to hold your merchandise, or would a steel or wooden point of sale display be more adequate for the job? If you prefer acrylic stands due to their ability to cope with wear and tear, can they be tailored to have an antique look, or will the modern material look out of place?

At Tradewind Displays we can tailor our products to your needs and advise you on the best point of sale for your retail outlet.

Let your Products Speak for Themselves

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

When creating point of sale displays you need to look at the merchandise you have and find appropriate displays to suit. If you sell newspapers then attractive newspaper display stands to present papers in an orderly and eye catching fashion are required. Magazine racks are a must-have when selling magazines to your customers and they can be used to grab attention at the front of your shop, or used to attract customers through the store to the back.

However, it’s not just about the point of sale displays that you choose. You can strategically select certain products to enhance the displays you create. Most newsagents and corner shops will have a confectionary and sweet display at point of sale. As chocolate bars and sweets tend to come in bright and attractive wrappers, the products will generally sell themselves. However, a charming touch is to use unwrapped sweets, such as jelly beans to really attract the eye to your mouth watering wares.

If you are going to choose this type of confectionary, you want to make sure it is in a prominent place in the store. Customers need to be able to see them and get to them easily. You may choose to create a counter display to entice people as they pay for their shopping, or you may want to make a greater impact by choosing a larger display to cover a wall.

Choose acrylic stands to display sweets. They are robust, lightweight and allow the vibrant colours of the sweets to speak for themselves.

At Tradewind Displays we can help you to source the best point of sale for your business.

Make your Sweet Displays Attention Grabbing

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Setting up eye catching point of sale for confectionary and sweets needs to look fun to attract potential customers, but also needs to be profitable for the store.  There’s more to it than simply ordering stock and getting it out on the shop floor.

When looking at where to place point of sale displays, you need to think about two factors:

Where can you accommodate point of sale displays? A confectionary display is usually guaranteed to make a profit but if you have crammed the point of sale into a small space, it can look uninviting and may be difficult for customers to access.

Secondly, from which place will your customers see it best? If you want to attract children to the sweet display then it should be situated next to other items that appeal to them, such as toys. If you have a small point of sale display and want to attract impulse buyers, then on the counter near the cash till is best.

Choosing the best quality containers for holding sweets may sound obvious, but there are many stores that end up with poor point of sale through lack of thought.  You’ll only waste time and money this way. Think about how much space you have to play with. Could you get a large point of sale display or would only small fixtures fit? Are there any special requirements such as shelving for chocolate bars and hooks for bags of confectionary?

At Tradewind Displays we can help with all of your point of sale requirements.

Don’t forget the front of store for Point of Sale

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Every shop manager will know that point of sale materials are critical to encouraging impulse purchases made within the retail sector.  While customer stands to pay for their shopping or are standing in a reception area it is a key time for them to view advertising material, complete competition forms, make an impulse purchase or find out about new products.

For this reason point of sale signage is extremely important and can significantly contribute towards increasing sales.  It is also much easier to up sell a customer at the point of purchase using attractive sales materials than without.

Point of sale also relates to the retail signs used on the front of a store to attract customers inside.  This can include any number of banner flags, A boards, frame signs, sale signs and lighting – in fact any signage that is attractive and eye catching will all positively help.  If you own a corner store, a small boutique or food outlet this is an important part of the promotional kit required to promote your business to passing trade.  Your goal is to give passersby a reason to come into your shop.

Many of the most popular designs for outdoor signage are the A boards.  There are different reasons for choosing each one.  A boards can be updated on a regular basis to show the day’s special or seasonal bargain.  You can choose from blackboard types, those with magnetic backings or those with wire mesh to hold posters.

At Tradewind Displays we have a range of point of sale and A boards to choose from.
