Celebs On The Magazine Stands

When you look at the titles in magazine stands, one particular genre stands out from the rest. Over the last ten years, celebrity-focused glossies have come to dominate the magazine display stands with their lurid headlines about the latest woes and troubles faced by Kerry, Jordan, Cheryl and whoever else happens to be in vogue that particular week. There isn’t a week that goes by without the magazine display racks telling you to read all about the latest Love Triangle or ‘My drink and drugs hell’ from a ‘celebrity’ you’ve never heard of until you saw the cover of the magazine.

You may or may not be interested in what happens in the lives of these celebrities, but you cannot ignore the fact that the number of titles dedicated to telling us about the minutiae of their lives which fill the magazine stands is something of a phenomenon. Newspapers and magazines have always been interested in the life of the celeb, and they never shy away from embellishing the story.

In the mid eighties, one tabloid ran a story about a wild party involving Duran Duran. The story breathlessly told us that ‘Simon LeBon was completely naked, apart from his boxer shorts’, which isn’t naked at all really, is it? Needless to say, the headline on the newspaper stands suggested otherwise, which just goes to prove that there might be something in the old adage that the only thing you should believe in the papers is the date on the front cover.
