Tradewind: Magazine Displays and Beyond

July 27th, 2010

The street vendor is just as ever-present as they have ever been. However, nowadays, they are facing an existential threat, and with the advent of e-commerce, the high-street is losing some of its pertinence. With this in mind then, it is especially important in the modern context that newspaper sellers et al are effective. This means, essentially, that their magazine displays are effective.

Luckily, at Tradewind we’ve got everything you need to create an effective display/stall.

Vending Kiosks

Vending kiosks still exert their presence on the high street, and are still a highly effective sales environment. On the one hand, they are too compact to accommodate newspaper stands. This does not necessarily come at a disadvantage, as they are compact solutions and offer a good level of weather resistance and durability.

Whilst vending kiosks are a great permanent or semi-permanent solution, at Tradewind we also offer a range of portable promotional stands, which differ as their primary function is promotion rather than point of sale.

They are also different because they are engineered for portability rather than durability and permanence, which makes them ideal for exhibitions etc, where expedient erection of a promotional stand is desirable.

So, you might come to Tradewind for the newspaper stands – but maybe you should stay for the other great display, point of sale and promotional products that we offer, facilitating your brand effectiveness. All you have to do is decide what it is you want or need, and let us know.

Newspaper Displays – key types

July 23rd, 2010

Superficially, newspaper display is a fairly simple matter. However, if you really want your newspaper displays to be optimized, then you will need to carefully consider the kind of display, and the method of display, that will afford you the best kind of vendor customer interaction.

The ideal style of newspaper stands for your specific requirement will hinge on a variety of factors: do you value space saving methods of display over methods that facilitate advertising? The answer to this will of course depend on your particular circumstance, and the nature of your stall/kiosks.

Multi-tier Display

If you have the space available, multi-tier newspaper display stands are a hugely effective way, not only to facilitate the sale of newspapers, but also to advertise their presence to potential customers. Of course, as they are free standing they will require a considerable amount of floor space, and would not be quite as effective for modest stalls.

Other Solutions

At Tradewind, as well as highly effective newspaper display stands, we also stock a wide variety of other newspaper display solutions, to suit a wide range of applications. For example, if newspapers are your only product then street seller stands are the ideal compact outdoor solution.

Or perhaps you want a thoroughly modern, yet highly affordable, solution for your newspaper display stands? In which case moulded stands are a great alternative to traditional wire or metal displays.

Newspaper and Magazine Stands – How Do they Differ?

July 20th, 2010

Obviously, newspaper and magazine display are similar disciplines, but they are not exactly the same. Only through consideration of the key features of magazines and displays will you be able to create the perfect magazine or newspaper displays.

Firstly, newspapers are often a lot larger than magazines (though not always), and therefore newspaper stands should be able to accommodate larger media, and will obviously be larger than magazine stands. The larger size of newspapers means that a newspaper rack will have a considerably greater impact than magazine display racks, and therefore needs less newspapers than magazines on a rack.

Although magazines are often much more vibrant in colour than newspapers, this does not necessarily mean that they are much better at grabbing a consumer’s attention. Instead, there is often such a large diversity of magazines on magazine display racks that their visual impact is confused.

Essentially, therefore, newspapers have much more advertising potential than magazines. This is not only due to their larger size and simplicity, however; the fact that customers will have an awareness of newspaper brands, and are much more likely to buy certain ones when it comes to newspapers.

In conclusion, despite newspapers and magazines being relatively similar kinds of print media, it does not necessarily follow that their modes of display and advertising potential should be similar. In fact, it might be said that a newspaper is a much more effective advertising product than a magazine.

What Makes a Great Outdoor Stand?

July 17th, 2010

Outdoor displays have the particular capacity for being able to reach a wide range of potential customers. However, this does come at a price, and outdoor displays need to live up to the specific demands of outdoor usage, including durability and visibility.

As outdoor displays will need to survive in the great outdoors, it is important that they are given some level of weather-proofing. Even if you only plan on using outdoor displays in the summer months, the British weather is changeable, and therefore there should be at least some level of resistance to water etc.

With this mind, outdoor displays need to take advantage of suitable materials. In this regard, acrylic stands are ideal as they are not only durable, but acrylic stands are also lightweight, which means that they can be moved indoors at a moment’s notice.

Of course, whilst acrylic stands are a great way to display newspapers etc, they are not the only outdoor solution. A vending kiosk is also ideally suited to an outdoor sales environment, as certain kinds of kiosks, such as the deluxe kiosk from Tradewind displays, will not only give you a durable outdoor display for your newspapers etc, but it will also keep the vendor protected.

So, whilst acrylic stands are a simple outdoor display solution, they are not the only option. At Tradewind, we’ve got all kinds of great outdoor displays, so come and have a look and see what we can do for your outdoor display needs.

A Boards – tried and Tested

July 14th, 2010

The modes and methodologies of sales and advertising are undergoing critical change. However, this does not necessarily come at the expense of traditional methods of promotion, and quite frankly there will always be a place for devices such as A boards.

A boards and pavement signs are still the most effective solution for outdoor point of sale, as essentially fragile modern forms of advertising and promotion have still yet to solve the particular challenges of outdoor display.

The most obvious of these challenges is durability, and in the UK we are especially familiar with the changeability of the weather. It is therefore not a good idea to leave a non-durable sign/digital display outdoors, as even if it appears to be sunny, Great British rain is always possible. With this in mind, durable A boards are perfect for the outdoors, as not only can they be quickly moved inside, but they also afford a level of durability. And this is vital when it comes to advertising to potential customers.

Of course, there’s more to effective pavement signs than inherent durability. And their relative simplicity also serves as a distinct advantage in an outdoor setting. As pavement displays have the unique challenge of advertising to complete strangers (rather than customers who are already in your store) they must be able to communicate highly effectively. In this sense A -boards, despite their simplicity, are hugely effective, and can carry simple messages/slogans that go right to the customer.

How to Optimize Point of Sale in an Exhibition Setting

July 11th, 2010

An exhibition setting is a uniquely challenging environment, as not only are you in direct competition with other brands interests, but you also have to appeal to your potential consumer base. With this in mind, optimizing the point of sale experience in the exhibition setting is doubly important.

Firstly, it is important to iterate that all exhibition displays will, or at least should, be different, as this is the most simple and effective way to assure your presence at an exhibition. However, there are still some techniques that should be effective across the board:

As exhibition is all about presence, you want to make your exhibition display aesthetically effective. But on a more simple level you should endeavour to make your physical presence as large as possible.

One way to do this is to have extraneous tendrils attached to your stall, which can be in the form of, for example, brochure racks and brochure stands, which will not only create a larger point of sale, but will also give you an increased advertising potential.

On a similar note, you will only gain a person’s attention long enough to make a sale if you give them enough appropriate stimuli, and therefore adding different media, such as brochures or even free gifts in brochure stands, to your display will help you to reach that all important point of sale.

How to Reach Fast Moving Customers

July 8th, 2010

Newspaper and magazine vendors often have a unique advantage over other sellers – i.e. they are often interacting with their customer base outdoors. This has some obvious advantages, yet there are also some equally pertinent challenges when it comes to outdoor selling – and reaching those fast moving customers.

On the one hand, outdoor newspaper or magazine stands have a unique oppourtunity to reach existing, and most importantly new customers. This is because newspaper stands often exist alongside the high street etc, and are therefore passed daily by a huge amount of potential customers. This gives newspaper and magazine stands a unique oppourtunity to reach new customers.

Unfortunately,  passer-bys will often only glance at newspaper displays, and therefore there is only a very small window of oppourtunity in order to entice a sale. This means that bold advertising techniques are often most effective in this kind of situation – as complex displays will not register with commuters in a hurry. With this in mind, newspaper stands are often most effective if they dominate the front of your stall (assuming that they are your main product) where they can be seen and also purchased. Remember, commuters don’t have time to fiddle around with complex newspaper displays.

Whilst position of a stand is crucial, the type of stand is just as important, as certain kinds of displays are meant for certain kinds of newspapers. The effectiveness of a particular stand will depend on how many kinds of newspaper you have – and how clearly you delineate them.

Magazine Stands – The Importance of Exposure

July 5th, 2010

Unlike newspapers, magazines are more often than not vibrant with colour, which has both its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to sales. On the one hand, the vibrant colour makes the magazine attractive to potential customers, whereas a large array of different magazines can often look cluttered.

With these opposing factors in mind, magazine stands are extremely important, as essentially they provide the same function as newspaper stands, but with some additional challenges.

Whereas with newspapers, it is likely that you will have only a few different issues on sale, with magazines vendors are more likely to have a diversity of stock. This means that effective multi display is well suited for presenting magazines, and magazine display racks are particularly effective if they accommodate an array of magazines comfortably.

Of course, magazine display racks aren’t the only solution for magazine displays. In fact, if you stock both magazines and newspapers, using the same display methodology for both kinds of print media may look a littly cluttered.

With this in mind, a diversity of presentation methods might be most effective, as it allows your customer to casually peruse the displays – thereby facilitating a sale.

Remember, all vendors, stalls and products are different, and therefore you will only reach an effective decision about what makes an effective magazine display, if you have afirm understanding of what you need. You will have to take an objective look at your stock and available space, and then decide what will work best.

Read All About It

July 2nd, 2010

Although there is a sea-change in how we get our news – with many of us now getting that news-fix online, either via search engine’s home news pages, or by digital versions of the market leading publications –  more traditional hardcopy newspapers are still hugely popular. For newspaper vendors, therefore, their place on the high street seems well assured. Yet if they really want to connect with their customers, as they adapt to ever faster lifestyles, then it is crucial that they learn to optimize their newspaper stands – which is essentially point of sale.

With this in mind, effective newspaper display stands should not only present the product (i.e the newspaper) in an effective way, but it should also serve as an advertising function. On the one hand, it should grant the customer easy access to the product, and on the other, it should advertise to potential customers.

The most effective newspaper display stands will depend largely on your particular products/product. For example, if you stock a variety of newspapers, then you’ll want a stand that clearly presents each issue, without looking cluttered. With this in mind, triple multi-tier stands would be ideal, as it allows vendors to dedicate a different tier to a different magazine or paper.

Newspapers are highly unique products, as they also have a self-advertising function, as  many customers peruse the headlines before deciding to purchase. This is exactly why newspapers are displayed on stands, as it allows for easy visual access and physical access when the customer commits to buy.

Reasons You Should Consider Buying Acrylic Stands

June 29th, 2010

Newspaper display stands come in a whole range of materials and designs, but the option that’s proving to be increasingly popular is acrylic. So just what can acrylic stands offer, and why should you consider buying them? Here are a few points you might want to consider.

•    They can easily show customers the publications that you have. With these stands there’s no chance of overlap as there’s plenty of space for all publications, making it particularly easy for customers to browse.
•    There are options for different types of publication. Broadsheet and tabloid newspapers require different stands to hold them, and luckily with acrylic versions there are options for all styles and sizes of paper.
•    You can get different widths and tier levels. Multi-tiered and double or even triple width options mean you can tailor your choice of stand to the size of your store and the number of publications that you have, offering you the ultimate choice and convenience.
•    They’re easy to keep clean. Acrylic stands are relatively maintenance-free and are easy to keep looking fresh and clean, and once you’ve got them they’ll last for years.
•    They look good. These stands can look particularly classy thanks to their design, but best of all they’re quite low-key so won’t distract the customer from the job in hand – buying their newspaper.

These are just a few reasons that you should consider using acrylic stands, and as you can see they can be incredibly beneficial. If you’re in the market for some, or indeed any other kind of newspaper display stands, make sure to come to us here at Tradewind Displays for a great selection.
